On July 24th, 2025, our team at the Institute of Neurogenetics traded lab coats for cowboy hats and set off for an unforgettable summer outing: the Karl May Festspiele in Bad Segeberg.
The Festspiele is a celebration of classic Wild West tales—full of galloping horses, daring stunts, and the timeless friendship of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. For many of us, it was our first visit, and there was a shared sense of curiosity and childlike excitement as we approached the open-air stage nestled against the scenic limestone cliffs.
Between bursts of applause and the occasional gasp during the more daring action scenes, there was plenty of time for laughter, conversation, and the simple joy of being together outside the usual academic bustle.
We returned home with dusty shoes, wide smiles, and plenty of new stories to share—both from the stage and from our own day together.
