Guest Lecture: Professor Anne Grünewald on Mitochondrial Signaling in Parkinson’s Disease

The Institute of Neurogenetics is pleased to announce an upcoming guest lecture by Professor Anne Grünewald, a distinguished researcher in mitochondrial biology and neurodegeneration. Her lecture, titled “Mitochondrial Signaling in Parkinson’s Disease”, will explore how disruptions in mitochondrial signaling pathways contribute to the onset and progression of Parkinson’s disease.

Date: Tuesday, 19 August 2025
Time: 9:30 AM
Location: BMF Seminar Room, 4th Floor

In this talk, Professor Grünewald will present her team’s latest findings on mitochondrial maintenance mechanisms beyond mitophagy, their involvement in neurodegeneration, and how impaired mitochondrial signaling may offer new avenues for prevention. She will also discuss emerging insights into the disrupted metabolic support function of astrocytes in Parkinson’s disease.

Professor Grünewald holds a bridging professorship at the University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine) and the University of Lübeck (Institute of Neurogenetics). She is a recipient of the FNR-ATTRACT career development grant and has led research programs across Germany and the UK, including fellowships at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Mitochondrial Research and Newcastle University. Her work bridges molecular neuroscience and translational research, with over 40 published articles to date.

We warmly invite all members of the academic and scientific community to attend this special event.
