The Institute of Neurogenetics is pleased to announce an upcoming talk by Professor Miratul Muqit, a leading expert in Parkinson’s disease research. His lecture, titled “Decoding Parkinson’s Disease: Through the Looking Glass of Mitochondria”, will explore the molecular insights into mitochondrial quality control and its role in neurodegeneration.

Date: Wednesday, 23 July 2025
Time: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: CBBM Building, Seminar Room Loewi (S1/S2), Ground Floor

Professor Muqit is Professor of Experimental Neurology at the University of Dundee and a Co-Investigator with Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP). His work has been instrumental in uncovering how the Parkinson’s-linked genes PINK1 and Parkin regulate mitophagy, contributing directly to the development of targeted therapeutic approaches now entering clinical trials.

In October 2025, he will assume the role of inaugural Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute Parkinson’s Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh.

We invite all members of the academic community and interested colleagues to attend this event.
